Overview

The UVM Foundation is seeking a highly detail-oriented and solutions-focused team player to join our team. The Staff Accountant will help execute vendor disbursements, expenses, cash receipts, and bank deposit strategies in support of the business goals of the UVM Foundation. This position will also focus on payroll processing and maintaining employee records in our HCM system. The Staff Accountant must have strong technical aptitude and be proficient with MS Excel. The person in this role understands the importance of effective and efficient financial operations in advancing the Foundation’s mission and supporting the philanthropic goals of our donors.

ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE: $65,000-75,000; plus, the UVM Foundation’s progressive benefits package, which includes: a comprehensive health plan; dental, vision, and life insurance; a robust paid time off package; a 403(b) plan with immediate vesting and contributions; and tuition remission.
Actual hiring pay dependent on current competitor market conditions, comparable employee peer(s) at time of hire, and candidate’s experience level and length. This position is classified at the Assistant Director level the UVM Foundation classification structure.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
35%     Travel & entertainment administration and reporting
  • Manage weekly activity, account assignment, and employee follow up.
  • Verify documentation for compliance with Foundation policy and IRS regulations.
15%     Accounts payable and expense reporting
  • Process vendor payments and assign proper account coding.
  • Update department managers on expense performance against budget.
  • Prepare and process annual 1099 filings.
20%     Cash receipts and daily transaction processing
  • Daily deposit of cash, checks, and credit cards.
  • Daily receipt processing and feeds reporting.
20%     Payroll and benefit administration
  • Pay Foundation employees accurately and on-time.
  • Update employee records for hires, termination, changes, and benefits.
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and management reports.
10%     Special projects and other work as assigned
MINIMUM SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Critical thinking – ability to detect incorrect or abnormal information, identify the root cause, and recommend solutions.
  • Attention to detail – review information for accuracy and identify mistakes or areas that need further review.
  • Strong technology aptitude – ability to quickly learn and apply technology solutions to routine business transactions. Proficiency with MS Excel skills.
  • Problem solving – ability to independently figure out solutions to routine business transactions.
  • Effective interpersonal relationships – ability to build effective interpersonal relationships with Foundation staff, UVM staff, and our payroll system vendor.
  • Deadline focus – ability to organize work in order to meet internal and external production deadlines.
  • Strong follow up skills – ability to independently follow up with staff to gather information and complete critical tasks.
  • Work in a team environment – enjoy working with multiple people on projects and department activity.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Experience with bookkeeping, cash receipts, travel and entertainment card management and payroll/benefits, ideally within in a higher education business office or similar non-profit. Ability to independently create spreadsheets using large data sets. Equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable skill mastery has been achieved may be an alternative to a Bachelor’s degree.
Pay Range: $65,000 – $75,000 per year
